New TV Spot Shows Superman Flying — and the Internet Has Plenty to Say About His Face

DC Studios has released a new TV spot for the upcoming Superman movie, and the internet is having its say on David Corenswet’s flying face.

The 30-second video, below, shows two previously unseen clips: Lex Luthor stepping out of a helicopter in a snowy wilderness, possibly searching for the Fortress of Solitude, and Superman flying over an icy landscape, doing a barrel roll as he speeds towards a mystery destination.

It’s the clip of Superman flying that’s sparked the biggest reaction online, and that’s because of Corenswet’s flying face. Some are suggesting Superman’s face looks a little off in the shot because his face appears unnaturally still when his hair and cape are billowing in the wind.

(Then again, this is Superman, and perhaps his super strength would mean flying at super speed would have little effect on his super face?)

Others are simply putting this down to “wonky CGI,” others the expression on Superman’s face. Some are saying Superman looks a bit like Firefly actor Nathan Fillion in this shot (Fillion plays Guy Gardner in the movie). British comedian Jimmy Carr is another potential Superman lookalike, based on this shot, as is Jim from The Office.

It should be noted that there’s plenty of excitement about the Superman movie to go along with the discussion about this extremely short clip, and there are many fans saying this brief look at Superman flying has them even more hyped than they were when the film’s debut trailer was released last year. “Sure, it looks goofy, but let movies be goofy god damn it,” said redditor rockman767. “Saw people complaining about this shot. Yeah it looks a little weird and goofy but whatever,” added kaeden_66. “One shot isnt gonna ruin this movie.” “Pure determination and confidence with a hint of a smile,” said the appropriately named PantsUnderUnderpants. “Love it.”

It’s just three seconds, but already fans are comparing this Superman flying clip to flying Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, also written and directed by James Gunn. “The spin is super fun, I love that. But that close up/half fish eye look on his face is just awkward,” said emtemss714. “Really reminds me of Black Adam and Warlock in GoTG 3. Not as bad as those, but we have seen much better before.”

Superman hits theatres on July 11, 2025, and is the first film in the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. IGN has an explainer on all the DC Heroes and Villains in the new trailer, comments from James Gunn on Krypto actually being a pretty terrible dog in the movie, thoughts on how Superman is about hope, and more.
