Tom Cruise has revealed Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, the official title for the eighth film in the spy action thriller franchise.
Alongside the name we have the movie’s first poster, which shows Cruise as Ethan Hunt, and a release date: May 23, 2025. In an Instagram post, below, Cruise said: “Every choice has led to this.”
Fans were also treated to the debut trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which sees Cruise doing what he does best in the Mission: Impossible films: run a hell of a lot and perform death-defying stunts. At one point Cruise hangs on to the side of a plane for dear life. Meanwhile, Angela Bassett is now confirmed to return as CIA Director Erika Sloane.

Mission: Impossible 8 was originally meant to be Dead Reckoning Part Two, following 2023’s Dead Reckoning Part One. That got an 8/10 from IGN’s review. We said: “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning sees Tom Cruise’s anti-algorithm crusade take hilariously literal form, in a fun, intense and self-reflexive action saga that works despite itself.”
