Sebastian Stan Calls Thunderbolts* the Breakfast Club of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Buckey Barnes actor Sebastian Stan has called the upcoming Suicide Squad-esque film Thunderbolts* The Breakfast Club of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Stan told Variety that Thunderbolts*, which is essentially an Avengers film but made up of a more questionable cast than the typical heroes, echoes the same tone and humor of the classic 1985 comedy drama.

“Thundebolts* is really interesting because… It was so fun, and I’m curious to see how people are going to respond,” Stan said. “The closest one that comes is that movie The Breakfast Club. It’s that. It’s an odd group thrown together and the humor is in there, the tone is in there, and they’re all misfits.”

The Breakfast Club saw five teenagers from wildly different high school cliques forced together and kept right by the vice principal, and Stan commented its perhaps this teacher character his own Bucky Barnes, The Winter Soldier, is closest to.

Thunderbolts* also stars Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, David Harbour’s Red Guardian, and Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster, all from the Black Widow film, alongside Wyatt Russell’s John Walker from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost from Ant Man and the Wasp, and their ringleader Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

It arrives as the final film in the struggling MCU’s Phase 5 on May 2, though won’t quite end this chapter as Disney+ series Ironheart arrives a little later on June 24. Only a brief teaser trailer has been shared by Marvel so far.
