It’s official. Shocking absolutely no one, we’re getting a fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie from Paramount, Variety reports. It’s planned for release in spring of 2027.
At the moment, we have no further details on the fourth film: who or what it will entail, who’s involved, or anything else. We do know that the ending of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will tease another new character to set up the fourth film, but with the film literally releasing tonight, fans will have to wait to find out who that is (I hope it’s Big the Cat). Though we won’t spoil it here, be careful, as the end credits scene has leaked online.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 features the return of Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, and Idris Elba as Knuckles alongside their human friends James Marsden and Tika Sumpter as Tom and Maddie. Keanu Reeves makes his Sonic debut as Shadow the Hedgehog, and the cast is rounded off with Alyla Browne as Maria Robotnik, Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone, and Jim Carrey doubling as both Dr. Eggman and Dr. Eggman’s identical grandfather.
We’ve enjoyed all three films so far, with our critic saying the most recent release had “Better jokes, better imagery, and two (!) inspired comic performances by Jim Carrey give this Sonic sequel an edge on its overly kiddy predecessors.”
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is currently expected to top the box office this weekend with a predicted launch of $60 million, beating out the simultaneous debut of The Lion King prequel Mufasa.
